Planet Earth Party Bunting

Earths: 5 min | Bunting: 5 min | Ages 2+ with parental assistance.

Earth Day is here, and we’re excited to add this green craft to our Mommy + Craft series. Say hello to Amanda O’Rourke of @joyeverafter. She is an amazing designer-stylist-blogger, whose work can be found on Pinterest, Etsy and Minted. She is also a fabulous, urban environmentalist with her husband Trevor. Recently, she and I connected over the PBS Victoria series (...of which I’m now hooked.) In the same conversation, she graciously offered to create this adorable Planet Earth Party Bunting for us. Um, yes, please. Twist my arm. Thank you! Jump to DIY

Enjoy this super-easy craft made with coffee filters and washable markers. (key word: washable.) Amanda put her lovely spin on these little globes, by transforming them into chic party bunting. It has almost zero waste, zero mess, and it’s so pretty, you can add it to your home decor. An excellent way to talk to your kids about keeping our earth green.

Ready to go green and blue?

DIY: Planet Earth Party Bunting

Supplies:
Washable Markers
Coffee Filters
Scissors
Water Spray bottle
String

1. Trim off frilly edge for small globes, leave it on for big globes.
2. Go crazy with (washable) markers!
3. Spritz water to blend color.
4. Lightly pat and hang dry.
5. Poke holes and string up bunting.

I love this craft because it’s signature Amanda to transform simple things into elegant things. She can also can take a whole stack of coffee filters and style you a banquet, making it look like it cost a fortune. Give me the same stack of filters and I will brew 100 pots of coffee and buy you a party banner at Target. Just sayin’.

Urban Environmentalists

In the few years I worked with Amanda, she and her husband Trevor lived in the city of St. Louis—a beautiful, historic neighborhood experiencing grassroots revival. They were devoted to their community and became part of the revival. Of their many ventures, they began a white-roofs painting project to cut energy costs for city homeowners. They helped to launch Revive, a community-run upcycle + thrift store. Best of all, they were twice featured in St. Louis City’s Sustainable Backyard Tour, having transformed their historic house into a sustainable home complete with chicken coop, organic farming and rain garden.

Amanda and Trevor now live in Wyoming rennovating their next beautiful home, and preparing for baby boy #3. Definitely follow their adventures, her beautiful work and their shared goal towards a cleaner, simpler world.

Thank you, Amanda, and boys Gunnar + Arden! You guys are the best. Happy Earth Day.
