Craft + Play Nook: Starter Supply Collection

When I started a craft + play nook at home, I didn’t know what supplies to buy. And the craft store was waaaay too overwhelming. Once I got the hang of it, I thought it could be helpful to remove the guesswork for others. Here's a list of items I have on hand to fill up my mason jars. They are small batch, versatile and should make a great starter kit. Build it at your own pace and start with items you might enjoy with your kids. All links point to Amazon Prime or Walmart for best deals. Just refresh when needed. Happy shopping!

1.  Noodles  |  Parachute Cord
2. Paper Straws
3.
Watercolor Pencil
4.
Crayons  |  Jumbos
5.
Play-Doh  |  Play Doh Cutting Tools
6. Popsicle Sticks
7.
Pipe Cleaners
8. Cotton Balls
9. Paint Options:
Crayola’s Washable Kid’s Paint 2oz bottles* | Metallics 2oz bottles* |  SchoolSmart’s Neons 16oz bottles*  |  Brush Set  |  Foam Brushes
10.
Craft Glue  |  Glue Stick  |  Child-Safe Craft Scissors  |  Yellow Artist Tape
11.
Googly Eyes Bagged  |  Googly Eye Stickers
12. Sidewalk Chalk
13.
Magnet Letter Bucket  |  Magnet Numbers Bucket  |  Magnet board
14.
Construction paper  (not pictured)
15. Chinet Plates (not pictured)

A note about picking paint: Pick 2oz sets for a 2-3 uses. Pick 8oz or 16oz sets for multiple uses or multiple hands. (Check out my post Craft + Play Nook for simple storage ideas.) Crayola’s Washable Kid’s Paint cleans up great, and has a thicker opacity for painting rocks. Not to mention, the primary blue is stunning and my son loves it. SchoolSmart’s Neon set is fabulous, but thinner in consistency. According to one of my crafting heros, ArtBar, mixing a tiny bit of white tempera with neons will thicken them to be more opaque.

Optionals

These are great items to have on hand as well.
Blue Painters Tape  |  White paint marker  | Patterned Brayers  |  Sharpie marker  |  Glow in the Dark paint  |  Pom Poms  |  Neenah Paper Creative Collection thicker paper, vibrant colors, great for paints
