Make Alien Slime
If you haven’t made slime, get ready to join the #slime craze that is speeding faster than a UFO. It’s so popular, there are glue shortages everywhere. (Not making this up!) If you make slime with your kids, not only will you join the coolest parents in town, you’ll enjoy some ASMR effects, and have extra-starched shirts. You’ll even be in good company with daddy/musician Beck. Check out his newest Colors video here.
Supplies
1/8 c. Liquid Starch (per 5oz bottle of glue)
5 oz Orange Glitter Glue
5 oz Clear Glue
Neon Green food dye
Googly eyes
Pipe Cleaner (or twist tie)
Glass bowl
Mixing spoon
Airtight containers for storage
MANY THANKS! to slime experts Charis, Nicholas and Christian for helping us make our no-borax slime! You guys are the best, and you make the best slime in the galaxy!
No-borax Glitter Slime
Unscrew the bottle lid and squeeze the entire 5oz. bottle of glue into bowl.
Add 1 TBSP of liquid starch.
Mix.
Start adding liquid starch in increments, while mixing. Test the slime along the way, by tapping with your finger for stickiness.
Once it starts to really firm up, dig your hands in and mix. Keep adding starch in 1/2 tsp amounts until it is the consistency you like.
Once it feels almost perfect, but still sticky, let the slime set for 5-10 min. Test it again. You can add those last few drops of starch to stiffen it, or you may like it as is. The final product should be sticky, but it should also roll around your hands easily without leaving lots of residue.
No-borax Eyeball Slime

Add 2 drops of Neon Green food dye.

Add Goggly Eyes.
Dig your hands in and mix. Keep adding starch in 1/2 tsp amounts until it is the consistency you like. (See Step 6 above.)
Make Lifted’s Aliens: Stu + Mr. B
This DIY moves fast! Shape the characters quickly before they melt back into slime puddles. Worth it. Stretching their neon sliminess in the sun is even better.
Follow instructions above to make BOTH batches of slime. (We left the googly eyes out of the green batch.)
Wind pipe cleaners around a pencil to make antennas.
Take 2 handfuls of green to shape the bodies + 2 globs of orange to shape the helmets.
Shape and merge.
Add goggly eyes + antenna.
Strettttttch!
Fun Trivia about Lifted
Besides having an incredibly witty storyline, Lifted’s genius is definitely found in the sound effects. This might be because director Gary Rydstrom is a multiple-Oscar winner for sound design. From the musical score to farmer Ernie’s Wilhelm scream to the mega control board on the spaceship, (which likens to a sound mixer) — sound plays a huge role.
Another fun feature is the Jiggle technology developed for Lifted’s jello-like characters. (A perfect segue to sliming.) Lastly, animator Jason Deamer, used farmer Ernie’s character as an early model design for Alfredo Linguini of Ratatouille. A perfect pairing, as Lifted is the animated short included with the release of Ratatouille movie.
Thanks for sliming with us! Remember, “failure is an option.”
