Mother’s Day Botanical Art
Forage: 10min | Create: 20min | Shoot: 5min
“I picked this for you Mommy!” There is nothing like the first time your son or daughter hands you a chubby fistful of dandelions, buttercups or clover. As a tribute to that sweet memory for Mother’s Day, I’ve asked my favorite designers to help us create our Mother’s Day Botanical Art. Oh my, did they deliver! The letterforms are gorgeous, the hearts are lovely. We all agreed, this craft is fun, fast and addictive.
Wanna create your own art for Mom, Grandma, Abuela or Auntie? There are 3 simple steps: Forage, Create, Shoot. All you need is a sidewalk, small bucket, scissors and your iPhone. Once you’re done, you can frame your image, create a screensaver for Mom, or text the image to her on Mother’s Day with a beautiful message.

Step 1: Forage
Foraging = FUN! Most everything you need is in your yard or along the sidewalk: buds, grass, leaves, sticks, rocks. Pick 3-4 items to create your art. Tip: Smaller is better. Items like buttercups + tiny leaves will shoot larger in the final photo, and fill the frame beautifully.
Step 2: Create
Choose a letter/object to create.
Pick a time of day. Soft shadows:10am/2pm. Dramatic shadows: sunny, 12pm/3pm.
Trim + group your items.
Arrange botanicals on a sidewalk square or colored sheet of paper.
Grab your phone and get ready to shoot!
Step 3: Shoot + Send
Choose a time to shoot: Soft look: sunny, 10am/2pm. Dramatic look: sunny, high noon.
Use a white sheet of paper as a fill card to help diffuse harsh shadows.
Watch out for the wind and shoot fast!
Wanna get fancy? Here’s our favorite editing apps: A Color Story and Over.
Once you’re done, you can print + frame your image, create a wallpaper or screensaver for her, or text the image on Mother’s Day with a beautiful message.
Now our favorite part...
Thanks to our lovely designers!
If I could tell the stories of each of these women, I would write a book. They are passionate designers, beautifying the world one idea at a time. They are some of the most inspiring women I know. Follow them and watch the amazing things they do. Thank you, ladies, for celebrating Mother’s Day with us.
